Ray Kieft has spent more than 40 years touring all areas of Yellowstone National Park in search of special fly fishing rivers, streams, and creeks where only a handful of women and men who visit Yellowstone to fish for a day or two ever venture.

He has provided instruction and guide services for clients who want to learn to fly fish in America’s premier fly fishing area. His knowledge of the greater Yellowstone area was acquired by being willing to explore areas away from the must-see tourist spots and going off the beaten path.

He incorporates this knowledge into the story lines of his novels. A former professor and college president, his experiences in management have influenced his fictional character, Parker Williams, in his ownership and management of the Gold Medal Fly Fishing Shop and business in West Yellowstone, Montana, a small community adjacent to the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
